Proptech… It’s a word that just 2 years ago, no one knew. Now it’s one of the hottest buzzwords in the tech world, which is why GTEC and Union Investment decided to seize the opportunity and become leaders in the Property Tech innovation movement by initiating the PropTech Innovation Awards.
Every year, the PropTech Innovation Awards attract the hottest talents in proptech, with hundreds of proptech startups applying from every corner of the world. The months of applications culminate in 12 startups being chosen to pitch at the PropTech Innovation Award Ceremony, a high-profile event taking place in the European epicenter of entrepreneurship: Berlin.
This year, the Ceremony took place at Säälchen, an industrial-cool venue directly next to the Spree, part of the Holzmarkt real estate project, which offered a perfect stage for the proptech finalists to wow the audience with their revolutionary companies. Take a look for yourself:
That’s Claire Penny, the Global Industry Leader for IBM Watson Internet of Things for Buildings. She kicked off the Ceremony with her keynote on putting AI into buildings. The key to unlock the potential of a new kind of buildings? Data. It’s no longer about “location, location, location”, but the new value that information provides.
This was followed by a panel discussion with a few of the jury members (see full list below) on the topic of risky new digital business models and how to create value out of them. What may have come as a surprise to some audience members was the huge potential for collaboration, innovation and progress that a behemoth company such as Union Investment can offer to startups. Union Investment is not only ready to support and grow the smaller companies but is extremely willing to listen and learn from the emerging digital businesses. Take note, startups!
Next up was the fun part: the pitches! All 11 startups were separated into categories:

After much deliberation, the jury finally landed on the best PropTech startups in the world!
